Diagnosed TB, Did Not Follow Treatment, Now Quarantined. What Protective Garments To Wear To Be Safe?

Hello Doc. Grief, I am concern about a relative with the TB virus. He was diagnosed some years ago but did not follow through with the necessary requirements to regain better health. He was recently placed in the hospital where he is somewhat quarantined. Another relative was able to visit him but had to wear protective clothing. My concern is this: If his apartment is in dis-array (and I do believe it is) I want to help him by cleaning it before he is released. What type of protective garments do I need to wear to be on the safe side?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
It seems your known person may be a case of Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis ( M D R Tb).
Now , note down Sputum is positive and E S R is very high than he is contaminate others.
Wear gloves and cover the mouth with cloth as T B spread by drop let infection ( when a sputum +ve person speaks , his sputum may contaminate other ).
Don't share any food or clothes , towels, or eatable in same plate.
Stand 4-5 feet away.
Good luck.

Hi,
Keep his bed room well ventilated with good sunlight in the room.
you may wear mask over the nose to prevent direct contamination with patients breathing.
Do proper disposal of patients cough, phlegm etc.
Keep in mind that treated tb patients are not infective to others.
Untreated patients are more prone to spread infection.
Give him high protein diet.
Ok and take care.
