Diagnosed With GERD, Nausea, Chest Pain, Low BP, Been Feeling Sick, Lost Weight. Done Blood Test. Why Is This Happening?

Hi, I'm 25 years old and have nothing but problems recently. Firstly I was diagnosed with GERD a year ago, constantly having a nauseous feeling and funny taste in my mouth, iv been taking medications which just seem to mask the problem rather than make it better. Then over the past couple of month iv lost quite abit of weight. I weighed 54kg and have dropped down to 49kg, this was within about 2 weeks and I haven't gained anything since. I feel tired all the time, I struggle to eat now, I feel full after a few mouthfuls of food. Iv had blood tests done which all came back ok. I have low blood pressure and suffer with migraines. And recently iv started with a racing heart beat (125bpm) and chest pain. Doctors have given me no hope in finding out what's wrong. I'm fed up of feeling unwell now. I have 2 children and aren't enjoying them like I should as I'm too tired and worn out all the time.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

I will advise you to get an endoscopy examination to see for any narrowing or stricture in oesophagus which may happen in GERD as you feel postprandial fullnessand there is loss of weight.

Meanwhile:
1.Avoid fatty meals
2. Don’t lie down soon after meals for at least half hour
3.Take small and frequent meals, instead of full meals at a time
4. wear loose clothes
5. If you are overweight or obese do weight reduction with dieting and exercise
6. take a proton pump inhibitor like rabeprazole and a prokinetic agent like domperidone

For increased heart beat, it appears to be due to anxiety for which you may take some antianxiety drug like clonazepam. However still I will advise you to get cardiac evaluation also

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
