Multiple
sclerosis (MS) is characterised by relapses of symptoms and new lesions on the MRI over time. So, it is important to be on a disease modifying drug, which could prevent these.
In your case,
avonex (
interferon injections) have prevented the relapse of symptoms, however, new lesions have formed on the MRI. Over a period of time, these new lesions would also increase the amount of
disability.
Therefore, starting gilenya (
fingolimod tablets) is important in your case to prevent the MS disease progression.
