Diagnosed With Rheumatoid Arthritis. When Rolled Right Ankle, Felt A Grinding Type Sensation. Difficult To Walk. Sprain?
Yesterday I rolled my right ankle and felt a grinding/popish type sensation. It was difficult to walk on and very tender to touch. Within an hour I had a goose egg bump with bruising below my outside ankle bone. First, Is this most likely a sprain? Secondly, I have recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis......does that make a difference with this injury? Thank you.

Hello, Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury or ligament injuy . Large lump might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood). You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well. Rheumatoid Arthritis does not make a difference with this injury.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
Hi RA does not affect your present injury. You still need to get x ray done to rule out any fracture around ankle. If there is no fracture its probably ankle sprain. You need to tie crep bandage every two hours apply ice and keep limb elevated. Dont walk on affected limb use walker. Have rest for a week. And if still pain persist mri should be done. Get well soon. Thank you.
