Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Painful Knee, Hip Pain. On Tramadol. Curable?

I have been diagnosed witth fibremyalgia in 1991 I also have arthritis. I am in so much pain at night with my knee and hip joint that I cannot sleep. Doctor gives me Tramadol and another mild pain killer but these dont stop the pain. I am also prescribed Furosimide for fluid retention. Could I possibly have a condition called gout? Also are there any new cures for fibromyalgia?

Rheumatologist 's  Response
Hi !

Thank you for your query.

Dear madam,

Looking into your problem you have two concerns , First your pain is not relieved by present pain killers . Tramadol is a very safe and effective drug for pain relief . If you think it is not effective you can talk to your treating rheumatologist about the option of COX 2 selective inhibitors like Etoricoxib etc.

Second about gout . Well madam gout affecting females is less common and it generally presents with excruciating pain in the big toe along with swelling and redness . You can get your s.uric acid levels checked and then consult although they are not diagnostic but still give a clue.

Well fibromyalgia is a difficult condition to treat . you have not told on which therapy you are so i will not be able to asess your status and which options you have not explored for the disease.

Hope you are satisfied with the answer.

If you have any queries feel free to ask.

Wish you good health.

Take care.
