Diagnosed With Mumps. Face , Neck, Ears Swollen, Painful To Chew, Headache. Taking Otc Drug Helped. Mumps? Is Swelling Likely To Go Down?

I had some slight swelling behind my left ear on Monday, on Tuesday my jaw and left side of face was badly swollen. I went to the doctors in the morning and was told it was Mumps. I have been off work for 4 days now. The swelling spread to other side of my face and my neck (particularly around the ears and under my jawline). It is very uncomfortable, painful to chew, I have experienced some headaches, back pain and hot and cold flushes. Although I have been taking OTC drugs which have helped quite well. Today the swelling is the same (I still look like a hamster), but physically I feel fine. Is the swelling likely to go down now? Can I return to work soon? Is it likely to be Mumps or something else perhaps? I am 23, female, and completely healthy otherwise.

Hello.
Thanks for your query.
The swelling on both sides of your jaws is due to Mumps .Usually it was preceded by fever.
Ii is a communicable ,disease spread by droplet air borne disease.
Since it is a viral infection usually it will take one week.
Meanwhile you have to take semi solid and liquid food so that you can avoid chewing and subsequent pain.
