Diagnosed With Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, On Lamotrigine. Bad Taste In Mouth. Any Thoughts ?
6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy and have been titrating up to my current dosage of 100 mg of Lamotrigine in the a.m. and 100 mg. at night. I don't notice a bad taste while taking the pills, but I do notice an unusual taste in my mouth during the day as if I have very bad breath. I am used to having a very clean mouth and brushing often but this doesn't seem to alleviate the problem. Any thoughts on whether or not this could be a side effect of the drug?
Lamotrigine can produce dry mouth, bad taste, bitter taste and even sore throat.I feel your bad taste is mostly due to lamotrigine.
There are many causes of bad taste.Local infection, medication ,head injury and even aura of temporal lobe epilepsy can produce bad taste , .You may require local examination(oral, throat ) and EEG to confirm it.
I hope this helps you
