Diagnosed With Undifferentiated Schizophrenia, Suffered Relapsed On Stopping Medicines. Prescribed Sizodon Plus, Arip. Right Treatment?
hello sir.my brother is diagnosed with undifferentiated schizophrenia .he is 47 yrs old.he was on medication/ injections from dec-2009 till october 2011.the doctors stopped his medication in oct-2011.he was off all medicines since oct-2011.he suffered a relapse in september this year. he is being given resperidone 2 from 11 to 20 sep, resperidone 4 from 20 sep to 11 oct and resperidone 6 since 11 oct.today a different doctor has told to give sizodon plus(resperidone 3 and trihexphenidyl)twice and arip mt 5 twice for 2 months.is it ok. thanks mohnish joshi
Risperidone is an antipsychotic drug. Sizodon plus also contains trihexyphenidyl which is a central anticholinergic to prevent side effects of risperidone (i.e. EPS- e.g. Drug induced parkinsonism).
Arip MT contains aripiprazole which is again an antipsychotic drug with better side effect profile than risperidone.
Don't worry, continue the treatment as advised and have faith in your doctor.
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
The treatment which your brother has been advised is appropriate for his diagnosis. Both Sizodon (Risperidone) and Arip MT are anti-psychotic medication, given for Schizophrenia. The trihexyphenidyl in the Sizodon plus is a medication given to prevent certain side effects due to Risperidone (like tremors, muscle rigidity, restricted movement, etc.) Since, he has had a relapse on stopping medication, it is now essential to continue medication on a long-term basis.
SIZODON- Risperidone ARIP- Aripripazole, both are antipsychotic and can be given in SCHIZOPHRENIA.
TRIHEXYPHENIDYL- used to lower the side effects (EXTRA PYRAMIDAL) of antipsychotics.
Then main thing is to adjust the dose between the medicines. Now he is getting Risperidone-6mg, Aripripazole- 10 mg per day. Anyway rather than using a combination of two drug a full dose of a single drug is preferable. As the highest dose is almost achieved in case of RISPERIDONE thats why Aripripazole has been added. Now just keep patience and wait for the good outcome.
Best of luck.
