Dilated Aortic Root, Family History Of Aortic Aneurism. Need To Be Worried?
I recently applied for Life Ins and was rejected because of a Dilated Aortic Root. Two years ago I had a echocardiogram and ultrasound done because my Father had an Aortic Aneurism the size of an orange removed. I was told it is hereditary so I wanted to take the steps and make sure I was okay. After the tests I spoke with my primary care doctor and was told everything is okay. I called to find out what this was and my doctor has retired. I was told I needed to see a doctor before they could discuss my file. I have an appointment in 3 weeks. Do I need to be concerned that I wasn't ever told this? Why would the life insurance company reject me and the doctors not inform me of this situation? I'm guessing it's of some concern considering the life insurance company doesn't want to insure me.
Dilated aortic root do carry a high risk of developing aortic aneurysm, which in your case may be higher since your father also had it. Although asymptomatic I will encourage you to consult a cardiologist sooner than later. Beta adrenergic blockers and serial ultrasound measurements twice a year are highly recommended when asymptomatic.
Looks like your ECG and ultrasound was performed two years ago, I will advise that you get it re-checked and have your condition evaluated from the cardiologist. May be a letter from your cardiologist might help your cause for the insurance.
Hope this helps.
