Diverticulitis Attack Over 2 Weeks, Taken Cypro Flagyl, Antibiotic, Brat Diet Incorporating Normal Foods. Cramps, Bloated. Suggestions?
I am only 21 yrs of age and had a diverticulitis attack over 2 weeks ago I have taken cypro flagyl and an antibiotic and have been done with them for about a week. i was also put on the brat diet which i an slowly now incorporating normal foods. however i still have some cramping on the left side and despot losing ten pounds I'm very bloated
It is hard to believe that you have diverticles in such young age. This disease is caused by chronic constipation and needs many years to develop. So usually people over the age of 40-50 suffer from diverticulitis. BRAT diet is used to treat diarrhea. Diverticulitis usually does not cause a diarrhea. So this is a second reason for you to verify diverticles diagnose.
Your symptoms can be caused by bacterial infection or (more probable) by inflammatory bowels disease (Crohns disease or Ulcerative Colitis). Generally to diagnose this diseases (as well as diverticles) colonoscopy should be done. But as in your bowels there might be an inflammation, colonoscopy should be done when it will be healed. That is why abdominal CT should be done at first. Please visit gastroenterologist and consider it.
Hope this will help. Regards.
