Do I Need Echocardiogram For Numbness In Chin, Lips And Chest?

I have been getting a numb chin for about 6 weeks now. Sometimes the numbness stretches down the front of my neck and sometimes I get it going up my cheeks. Sometimes it s across the front of my chest. It s like a moving sense of pressure and sometimes it s painful. I get palpitations and the GP is checking me out to see if it might be heart-related. I ve had a couple of borderline ECGs and a borderline exercise stress test. i m currently wearing a 24 hour monitor and I have an echocardiogram scheduled for Monday. The discomfort is really bad today though - chin, bottom lip, across my chest, just a feeling of tightness and pressure. I don t know whether it s stress or if I should get myself checked out immediately.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms do not seem to be related to the heart.

Is the chest pain triggered by deep breathing or body movements? This would be indicative of local musculoskeletal pain, probably inflammation.

In such a case, there is nothing to worry about!

Anyway, a coronary angio CT scan or a coronary angiogram would definitely help exclude coronary artery disease, considering your borderline previous cardiac tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
