Do I Need To Rush Next Steps With Enlarged Spleen And Low Platelets?
I have low white blood cells, low platelets, anemia and enlarged spleen. I can now feel the swelling of my preen and it seems to be getting fuller daily. Do I need to rush next steps as I am scheduled for CT in mid March? I have low back pain but only when I strain doing something or stand too long which is across my upper hips, but I also have osteoarthritis in my lower spine and bone spurs! but this pain is not the spine?
Dr office called again and want me in for more blood tests and to talk next week. I delayed as we live out of town. Should I be alarmed?
Hello and welcome to HCM, You are suffering from splenomegaly. There are various causes of splenomegaly. An enlarged spleen causes decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. The increase in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets can only be corrected once the splenomegaly is treated. Splenomegaly occurs due to infections, non-neoplastic and neoplastic causes. You need to consult your physician to find out the cause of splenomegaly. More blood tests may be required to find out the cause. The lower back ache could be due to osteoarthritis. The management of osteoarthritis is mainly conservative consisting of pain killers and exercises.
