Do I Seek Urgent Care For Swollen Hand, Numbness In Knuckles And Fingers?

My son punched a door last night, and his hand is swollen , discolored, with tingling and numbness in his knuckles and fingers. we are wrapping and icing, and also taking ibuprofen. He does not have insurance, and we are wondering if he can wait till morning, or if we need to go to urgent care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

I have studied your case with diligence

If there is huge swelling then there is possibility of compartment syndrome for which urgent treatment is required.

If there is fracture then immobilisation or surgery is required.
If he is stuck very hard then its better to consult doctor asap.

You may need to take decision early to avoid further stiffness.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
