I am taking 875 mg of amoxicillin twice a day and I am on 850 mg twice daily of Metfromin and my blood sugar levels have been really high 318 was the highest 230, 270 I am usually around 123, so I think the antiboitic is making it high. Can that happen
Hello, you haven't mentioned the reason you're taking antibiotics. Infections cause increased blood sugar levels. Amoxicillin doesn't. So the reason you're having that high blood sugar levels is the infection, not the antibiotic. The antibiotic may help your body recover from the infection and eventually bring your blood sugar to the usual levels. I usually advice my patients to increase the dosage of antidiabetic treatment if they experience serious blood sugar elevations, particularly if they are febrile. In a patient like you, I would probably have added low dose glimepiride if no contraindications existed. Kind Regards!
