Twisted my knee and had MRI, Impression states Joint effusion with a Baker's Cyst, Intrameniscal degeneration with a superimposed peripheral tear anterior horn of the lateral meniscus with parameniscal cyst along the anterior aspect of the lateral joint of the knee. Is this going to require surgical repair
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of the MRI report of knee is as follows: The knee joint shows presence of fluid accumulated in the joint causing joint effusion. There is presence of cyst called Baker's cyst in the joint. Cysts are non-neoplastic lesion which remains asymptomatic. There is tear in the lateral meniscus. Menisci are semi-circular cartilage attached to the leg bone. The torn meniscus shows presence of a cyst also.
The torn meniscus will require surgical repair since the meniscus is an avascular structure. Due to the avascularity, repair will not take place spontaneously.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
