Does Thyronorm Help In Treating Tiredness?

Hello Doc, I have sublicinical hypothyroidsm ( report taken june 2013 TSH level 8.8 and report taken last week 6.6). I didn t take any medicines but I feel tired in the morning and my periods are also changed in duration (from 3 days to 7 days at times). All the other tests are normal for me. Doc. today asked me to take Thyronorm 25 and please let me know whether this will help me get rid of tired feeling. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Rather the symptoms are due to subclinical hypothyroidism or not, it will be verified after starting the treatment and normalizing the TSH level. If the symptoms persist, than subclinical hypothyroidism is not the cause of the symptoms. Check the TSH level 6 weeks after starting Thronorm (I would recommend 50 mcg).

If you certainly have an underactive thyroid from one of the most common causes, that is Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an auto-immune condition, then there is a likelihood of other auto-immune disorders to be concomitantly present. Some examples are premature ovarian failure, adrenal insufficiency and type 1 diabetes. All this requires a careful assessment by an endocrinologist.

Hope this answers your query. In case of any doubts, I am available for the follow ups.

Kind regards,
Dr. Mirjeta
