Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have constipation. I had symptoms beginning yesterday and continuing today. I have cramping low and center of my abdomen. This afternoon I began running a fever of 100.6. These symptoms tend to last 2-3 days before I feel better. Sometimes I will take an aspirin which relieves the cramping and fever for a few hours. These symptoms reappear about once every 3-4 weeks. I have celiac disease which to my knowledge is under control with the proper diet. Could there be something wrong or should I self-treat with extra fiber and water?
The majority of people with celiac's disease will not have any symptoms. Occasionally some individuals will get some minor G.I. symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramping. Some people can also get weakness and fatigue since it is an autoimmune disease. Therefore, fevers are also possible since it is a systemic disease. I would recommend very strict gluten-free diet for several days. Most people will get complete relief of their symptoms and feel better within seven days of dietary changes. However, symptoms usually will not completely resolved until about 4 to 6 weeks. If you continue to have low-grade fever's I would recommend getting screened for celiac complications such as malignancies, ulcers, and pancreatic disease.
