Does Delayed Period After Unprotected Intercourse Require Pregnancy Test?
I had unprotected intercourse on November 16th, 17th. My period came on November 18th. I again had intercourse without any precaution on November 21 onwards till December 3rd. I was waiting for my next period on Dec 18th (expected date) which did not come. I checked it at home with PregaNews pregnancy kit on Dec. 21 and then Dec. 24th. The results were negative. Now it is Dec 27 (it’s been 9 days since my expected period date which was Dec 18th). However, in past my period had delayed by 9-10 days for a couple of times. Please advise me if I should meet a doctor to confirm it. Thanks!!
Unprotected sexual intercourse on so many occasions in a childbearing age group is most likely to end up in pregnancy.
Your menses were due on 18 December, which did not appear. So you performed pregnancy test on 21st which was negative. These tests done too early may give false negative results. They give reliable results after about a week or so. So the test you performed on 24 December should have given you reliable result. If that is also negative, you are most likely not pregnant. You may repeat the test now. After 9 days of missed period, it should give reliable result.
However, for more reliable confirmation, you may opt for Beta hCG test on your blood. If the values are less than 5, you are not pregnant while values above 25 are diagnostic of pregnancy.
If this test also rules out your pregnancy, you are definitely not pregnant. In that case, you may take Tab. Deviry for 5 days and you will get withdrawal bleeding within 4-7 days after that.
I hope this resolves yr dilemma.
