I suspect that I may have a deviated septum, but I have never seen a doctor for this problem. Often, one or both of my airways are blocked. In fact, I almost always only have one airway open at a time. I also have terrible allergy symptoms and get congested quite a bit. First, I am wondering, with a deviated septum, is it possible for your nose to alter which airway is open? And, in order to see an ear, nose and throat specialist, will I need a referral from another physician? Also, what will the physician do to verify if I do, in fact, have a deviated septum?
