Does Hiatus Hernia Surgery Cause Fever And Chills?

My son (37) had hernia surgery yesterday. Last night he ran a slight temp - 99.5 and was swollen. He s using ice packs in lower groin area. Tonight he has chills. He has a pain pump and is on oxycodone, of which he took two early afternoon. Should the chills be a concern? Is it a symptom of shock?

hello, thanks for your question.
Having few episodes of fever upto 100 f on the day of surgery or on the first post op day can be normal and it can be the effect of surgery(body response to surgery). It can be due to pain (improper coverage of analgesic)

But it becomes the a matter of concern if the fever is continuous or there is high spike in the fever.Probably after taking oxycodone the fever might have decreased if it was due to pain.
If not ask your doctor to get reevaluation of the patient to find out the cause of fever.
Thankyou
