Does It Mean I Have Diabetes When On Insulin For A Hole In My Lung?

Yes, on February 5, last Wednesday I had open heart surgery to repair two of my heart Valves. Plus I had a hole in my lung from scare tissue. Now I am on insulin before each meal and at bed time. They tell me this sometimes happens and usually goes away, when your body symptom levels out. Is this true or do I have Diabetes??? Never had any sign of it before and does not run in the family!!!

Hi
It is clear from your query that you are under stress as you have undergone open heart surgery. Some times diabetes appears for the first time during stress(stress induced diabetes) and need insulin to control it.Once this stress is gone the patient is reassessed for diabetes. Some times blood sugar values come to normal range and he has to be monitored regularly. But some times sugar values may remain high even after stress is relieved and one need treatment for diabetes continuously.
