Does Taking Pentoxifylline Help 98 Year Old Suffering From Neuropathy?
My daddy has neuropathy and was prescribed gabapentin but it didn't help at all. Now he has been prescribed pentoxifllne. Could you tell me what this new med is supposed to do to help his pain ? And would you prescribe this medicine for him he is 98 years old and doesn't like to take meds but hes in a great deal of pain and im trying to help him find out if this medicine will help or if some other meds would help more Thank you kim mountjoy
This is just to inform you that pentoxifylline is indicated for patients with chronic occlusive peripheral vascular diseases in the extremities (particularly intermittent claudication) and not for Neuropathic pains. So, this particular drug in no way helps to reduce the neuropathic pain for your dad. Propably, your dad might be having some associated arterial disorder also for which your treating doctor might have prescribed pentoxifylline.
I suggest you to approach your doctor and discuss the issues.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
