Does The Urine Culture Report Suggest Requirement For Hospitalization?

my father had a urine culture and it came back as escherichia coli greater than 100,000 colony forming units per ml and pseudomonas aeruginosa greater than 100,000 colony forming units per ml. His doctor wants to admit him into the hospital for IV antibiotics, is this necessary, He has had no symptoms as far as fever, chills, etc

Hi,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is not the usual organism found in the community. It requires IV antibiotics treatment. Culture and sensitivity needs to be done, as it is usually resistant to multiple antibiotics.
As it is showing double infection, if it is not treated at this stage, the infection can move up to damage the kidneys or move into blood stream leading to septicemia.
I am not quite sure, despite the infection, how could he not have symptoms. Is he diabetic? Why was urine culture done? If he had burning micturation, it is one of the common sign. Fever with chills and rigors are usually severe manifestations.
Hope it helps. Get him admitted and treated.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
