Does Thick Blood, Dehydration, Vomiting , Losing Weight Relate To Porphyria ?

Hello. I am asking questions about my daughters illness. her dad had porphyria cutana tarda. she now has symptpms like thick blood. dehydration. sick to her tummy with vomiting loosing weight. headache and we need to rule out porphyria or diagnose and be able to treat. we are in boise Idaho. please advise

Thanks for your question. Yes ofcourse apart from other common conditions porphyria is worth to rule out knowing family history. It would be important to know if patient has any skin problem or rash which is common in porphyria cutanea tarda. Also headaches and some cns symptoms are also likely. Sudden recurrent abdominal pain is mostly associated with acute intermittant porphyria. Also these variants can be
hereditory or sporadic. So you can go ahead and discuss with your doctors for getting urine test for porphobillinogen and uroporphyrinogens. Also routine blood count and sonography abdomen to rule out infection and bowel problems is important.
