Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
A standard fractured bone that is in place without major displacement takes 8 to 12 weeks to heal in a healthy person with proper immobilization. Smoking, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other chronic conditions can prolong or delay this healing. Premature mobilization or weight bearing on the extremity could also cause delayed or non healing.
If your pain is not controlled with ice, elevation, splinting, and narcotic pain meds, you should be re-evaluated by the ER or your orthopaedist.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.

General & Family Physician Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain's  Response
Hi and thanks for the question,
using the surgical technique to treat these fractures accelerate healing and recovering of active life. after six weeks the healing should be complete and you should be able to start walking normally latest before the start of the 5th month. Those the maximum durations and you risk recovering and starting to walk earlier. This is based on the assumption that the surgery was well done and there are no complications.
Wishing you just the best of health,
Stay well,
Luchuo,MD.
