Hi,
Absence of a corpus luteum since the beginning of the pregnancy is abnormal. Since this is the main secreting apparatus of progesterone during the early part of the pregnancy useful for maintenance, its absence causes serious concern. Based on your sonography findings, it is a missed abortion and the most likely cause for this could be hormonal imbalance or genetic defects. Perhaps your doctor wants to get another view after a week in the hope that the pregnancy may have survived after all. Hope this helps.
