Dry Cracked Heels With Bleeding. Have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome And Arthritis. Due To Vitamin Deficiency Or Hormonal?

Mother has extreme dry, cracked heals that bleed . The sole of her foot is covered with what look like callouses that also crack and bleed. The palms of her hands are now breaking out with same fissures. She has arthiritis, carpal tunnel . She has been to gp, dermatologists, podiatrists, orthopedic surg., and specialists at USC. All have done labs for infections, excema, psioriasis, fungus and all tests negative and is healthy otherwise. She has been prescribed ointments ( salicylic acid , etc.) but none have worked and most burn . She is in severe pain and can hardly walk. She is now back at her GP who has said it could be a vitamin deficiency (b12) or hormonal (she is in her 60s). She is now on hormones and taking vit b12 for month now but no improvement. Info online points to palmo plantar keratoderma, but none of the docs she has seen have discussed this with her. Info online also points to possible thyroid problem causing ppk. Mom has been unusually fatigued and is unable to gain weight even though she eats like a horse. Would all docs be aware of thyroid link or can a doc be recommended as we are at wits end and mom is in pain? LA County area.

Hello,

As you have mentioned the tests she has till date undergone are for her cracked heels and are normal.
As her age is 60, most of the times after menopause there are thyroid problems. Please do get her TFT(Thyroid Function test) done. Her fatigue and weight loss might be due to that.
Regarding the cracked heels, the simplest way along with vitamin B12 is soak her feet in warm water for 10 minutes and then scrub them every night before sleeping. After that dry them apply petroleum jelly and wear socks. This might sooth her heels and remove the soreness.

Hope this answer helps you.
