Due For Thyroid Blood Test. History Of Taking Levothyroxine For 2 Weeks, Stopped A Week Back. Will This Interfere In The Test?
Hi I took levothyroxine (non prescription 100 mcg) for 2 weeks, then im without it for one week, because im going for a thyroid blood test (tommorow). Is one week enough for the levothyroxine to leave my system ? So this tablets that I took one week ago will interfere with my thyroids results ? Since I stopped taking it , how long should I wait to do my blood test?
It is not advisable to take without prescription by a doctor. As it have lot of side effects like increased sweating, shaking (tremor), nervousness, tiredness, diarrhea, headache, shortness of breath.
Usual half life of Thyroxine is 7 days. But the elimination from body may vary from person to person and time to time. ie.. Drug in your boy is reduced to 50% in 1 week another 7 days to reach 25% and then 7 days for 12.5%. 6.25% in another 7 days and it continues.
so it is advisable not to check atleast for 2 months and then consult an endocrinologist. Then have proper thyroid profile.
Never take any hormones without doctor's prescription.
Hope this helps. If any doubt, kindly reply. Take care.
