Dull, Has Loose Motions, Fever. Yellowish Motions, Now Greenish And Thick. Anything To Worry ?

Hi doctor my daughter infant is 17 months old since yesterday she is bit dull and had loose motion not very watery but had strong curd like smell yesterday and had bit fever .We gave calpol syrup for fever and AD 10 oral suspension powder and OFM syrup. She had rotavirus dehyradtion 2 months back but was completely recovered. Today she had motion yellowish four times and now greenish thick motion. We consulted pediatirican and he said its not rotavirus but its stomach infection .Is this green motion a serious matter or is it normal and what is the reason behind the same. When we took her to the doctor there was no green motion but now after giving her electroal powder water and toast the motion was green it was just once now and now she is sleeping. I would be greatful if you recommend the diet for today.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Your child is having gastroenteritis due to a bacteria or a protozoa.
It may be due to some contamination by food, water, or by keeping hands or toys into mouth.
I advise you to continue the medication as advised by your Pediatrician.
Maintain hydration by giving sips of oral rehydration solutions like electral, Pedialyte, coconut water.
Monitor her hydration status by urine output, skin turgor and activity.
You can go for stool routine and for culture and sensitivity to know the causative organism and the culture will guide to select the appropriate antibiotic.
You can give home made soft diet consisting of rice, dal, and mashed vegetables.
Hope I have answered your query.

Pediatrician Dr. Balaji Chinnasami's  Response
Dear Nayakashwini,
There is nothing to worry about green colored stools. In diarrhea, bad bacteria replaces good bacteria of our gut. Hence the color change. Once diarrhea stops, color of stool automatically improves. Keep taking medications as advised by your dr. Keep hydrating your child with buttermilk, tender coconut water, plain water, lassi, rice porridge and ORS. In addition we can continue giving normal food items except too much spicy or too much oily or too much vegetables. Continue breast feeding, reduce milk in diet and instead give more curd.

Don't worry she will be alright. Take care.
