Experiencing Dizziness, Relief With Maclizine. Had Ataxia After Car Accident. Is Dizziness Connected?
I have had dizziness for a month now and take meclizine to relieve it. 10 years ago my doctor told me I had Ataxia from a car accident blow on the head. Could the dizziness be part of this? He told me 10 years ago I had changes in my cerabellum (had MRI). This was a neurologist that gave this opinion. I tried o go back to him, but they told me I had to have a letter from my Internal doctor why I needed to see him. He laughed at that.
Dizziness and/or vertigo can have different causes. The most common causes of vertigo are related to inner ear: (1) vestibular neuronitis - there may be history of a viral infection, the vertigo can last for hours to days at a time. (2) BPPV- benign paroxysmal positional vertigo - the episodes are related to the position of the head and lasts for a few seconds (3) meniere's disease-episodes last minutes to hours, may be associated with tinnitus and hearing loss
Normally the long term use of medication is not advised. Since you've had to use this medication for a month then it would be best to get a second opinion.
I hope this helps
