Experiencing Muscle Weakness In Legs, Sore Neck Muscles. Some Relief After Stopping Modafinil. Side Effect?

I am wondering about the muscle weakness I am experiencing especially when I get up in the morning or after sitting. Specifically, in my legs. I also have sore neck muscles. I have been on modafinil for about 3.5 months and stopped taking it when I noticed that my muscle weakness seemed unusual and had intensified. Could it be related to the medication. When I stopped the medication it seemed to get better but then it returned. Modafinil has been perscribed as a possible treatment for narcolepsy.

Hi and thanks for the query,

I would think you might need a keen clinical evaluation. Rheumatologic condition like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and other systemic diseases should considered., Your clinical history coupled with some specific blood tests should be sufficient. An erythrocyte sedimentation rate, rheumatoid factor measurement, Anti nuclear anti body testing and HLA27 are initial and most important screening tests that shall give a clear orientation and direction of the origin of the symptoms that you are experiencing.
