Experiencing Sudden Pain And Tenderness In Big Toe

I am having sudden pain and tenderness in my big toe at the edge of the nail. It is not an ingrown nail. I am aware of the tenderness all of the time but suddenly it will have a lot of pain and then it will subside somewhat. What could this mean?

Based on your description two possible causes are-
1. Infection –take antibiotic like augmentin and ibuprofen.
2. Gout- there may be raised blood uric acid level.
My advice would be visit a local doctor for physical examination and blood test.
