Experiencing Throat Pain While Swallowing

Hi I m 16 years old and my throat hurts only when I swallow, I also have a single yellow dot not he back of my throat. I have loss of appetite and I ve been tired recently. I ve troubles swallowing and when I do my throat and ears hurt. Lastly I ve had slight headaches. I have been doing some research and it looks like I could possibly have mono or strep. Maybe it just a coincidence, also some of my symptoms such as loss of appetite and headache have been very brief, for example I lost my appetite for about 35 minutes tonight and a headache lasted for about 5 minutes. Not in any hurry, just curious if i need to get some medicine or rest up?

Hello,
I went through your question. I understand your concern.

Presence of pain while swallowing, a yellow dot is suggestive of possible throat infection. The yellow spot is nothing but accumulated pus. When you have pain while swallowing you will have loss of appetite.

Presence of ear ache, head ache, throat infection is may be due to underlying sinusitis from where the infection may spread to ear or throat.

I suggest you to consult a doctor who will put you on antibiotics. Drink warm water. Do salt water gargling for 3 to 4 times a day.

Take care.

You can always contact me for any other information. I'll be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr. Prathap Kumar
