Hi,
Gangrene means some rotten part. It occurs when a part of the body is deprived of its blood supply and it then this usually becomes full with bacteria. Dry gangrene occurs when bacterial involvement is minimal and wet gangrene occurs when bacterial involvement is maximal. Gangrene causes foul smell, discharge and blackening of the affected part and organ failure if the bacteria migrate from there to affect other systems. In dry gangrene, the affected part, usually a digit, is black and very dry with minimal smell. The affected area is hard.
