Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've went to the ER twice in the past two days because of the feeling of an irregular heartbeat(skipping feeling) and all of my test results came back normal including my ECG, blood tests, Thyroid. The doctor told me he was looking at my heart rate monitor the whole time and said he didn't see anything abnormal? He said it probably is when I exhale, my heart slows down fast which would feel like i'm skipping a beat.
Welcome to HCM.It would be best if your PCP could order a 24 hour mogile ECG/Holter Monitoring for you. This ECG is recorderd and can then be examined for any rhythm defects or arrhythmias. This would allay your suspicions of skipped heart beats.
Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. You may be suffering from either Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or Anxiety.
In paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, Irregular heartbeat comes and goes. Irregular heartbeat may lasts for few seconds to few hours.
So it is essential to do cardiac stress test - Treadmill test to rule out Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Persons with Atrial fibrillation have increased risk of stroke than others. So please have cardiologist opinion and better rule out Atrial fibrillation.
Hi, Feeling of skippping an heartbeat is difficult to explain.Missed heart beats can occur in case of ventricular ectopic beats that do not get transmitted. But this is more often picked up as a sign and very rarely a symptom. Some heart blocks can also cause missed beats but again it is very difficult for a person to feel this.Symptoms may include dizziness, fatigue etc. Tachyarrythmias like atrial fibrillation presents with palpitations, dizziness etc.If the ECG and ECG monitoring was done during a episode of your symptom and found to be normal,I feel there is nothing more to be done. But,if you were asymptomatic during the tests then it may be advisable to also do prolonged ECG monitoring like Holter(24 hours).Even 7 day ECG monitoring is available. All this is to pick up any arrythmias if it exists ,during your symptom period. Normal blood tests again suggests to you to be relaxed and not worry about your symptoms.
