Hi, Welcome to HCM. I am suspecting gastric ulcers in your husband. These ulcers cause pain after eating so the patient avoids eating and this could lead to weight loss. In duodenal ulcers on the other hand, food relieves the pain. So patient eats lots of food and weight gain is common in these patients. Weight loss is considered significant if it is more than 10% weight loss of the total body weight.. I suggest a complete workup including stool test and endoscopy to rule gastric pathology. Tab Pantop 40 mg twice daily before food for two days. Drink lots of water. Fluid diet recommended for two days. Thanks.
