Feeling Sore Under Ribs, Difficulty In Lying Down. Healing Period? Suggestions?

I was lying on my stomach on a hard surface working when I felt a "pop" in my lower left rib. It was painful and made me stop working. Since that time (a week) I've felt sore under my left rib in the front. It doesn't hurt to sit, cough, laugh, sneeze or breathe. But laying on it, even on my soft bed is not comfortable and after a week I still seem to be just as sore. Hurts if I press on it, but not otherwise. How long will it take to heal? What can I do to help it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
It s important to know if you have any past history of gastritis, gastroesophagal reflux disease or not. It s also important to know when you experience such symptoms most. Any family history of asthma or not. However, a clinical evaluation with preferably an internist is advised. A lung infection, acute gastritis or peptic ulcer disease and other chronic lung diseases are most probable possibilities. A chest X ray , gastrointestinal tract upper fibroscopy, a complete blood count in search for raised white blood cells coupled with a clinical examination would be very useful.
I highly suggest you consult your internist for a proper clinical evaluation and management.
Thanks and best regards,

Hello
Thanks for posting your query.
From description it seems to be muscle strain. I suggest you to take proper rest an get it evaluated by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Avoid lifting weight or exercises that involves painful muscles. You can take antiinflammatory drug like ibuprofen to reduce the pain and spasm. Doing hot fomatation and applying muscle relaxant gel will be helpful. Give proper time to heal.
Hope this will help you
Regards.
