Hello Rosemary,

Welcome to the forum. Your symptoms indicate that you had a bad fall from the stairs. Local application of pain relieving ointments, muscle relaxants and sprays on the shoulders and back can give you immediate relief. You can apply ointment 'Thrombophob' to prevent the blue coloration of the skin due to formation of blood clots.

The numbness that you are complaining of can be due to many reasons, it can be due to some kind of neck injury, sensory nerve compression, trauma on the cervical spine, herniated disc due to fall. Tensions and anxiety may worsen the symptoms.

For permanent relief you should get a cervical MRI done to get diagnosed without much loss of time. Neglect may lead to headache, visual problems, nerve weakness, neuropathy and more complications like multiple sclerosis, etc later.

You need to get blood tests done to rule out diabetics and any other complication due to any past illness.

Oral steroids, medications for pain and physical therapy ( physiotherapy and cervical exercises ) will help you get well soon. Get all the investigations done and get well. If you have any problems I am there to help you. Take care.
