Fibroid S, Heavy Periods, Anemic. Close To Menopause. Hysterectomy?
I have fibroids that cause extremely heavy periods. Tampons only last 20-30 minutes for 4-5 days. I am anemic because of this with hemoglobin between 7 and 8. Otherwise, I am in good health and 51. I do not believe that I am even close to menopause. I tried birth control pills, but that did not work out. Is hysterectomy my best option?
Hi, Thanks for consulting us. You certainly need treatment due to anemia. Hysterectomy is one option & a definitive treatment. Medical treatment is short term, not definitive & may produce undesirable effects. Other options include Myomectomy; It could be done as an open surgery, through Laparoscopy or Hysteroscopy, depending upon size & site of fibroids & the expertise available. Third option is Uterine artery embolization. You may discuss these with your Gynecologist & make an informed choice. Wish you good health. Take care.
