Hi,
I have read your problem,But you have not mentioned about tooth (regarding wheather it is in upper jaw or lower jaw, right side or left side and which tooth, anterior or posterior) . Let it be,I think this is because of chronic infection which was already present in your tooth( at time of filling).First go for Radiograph (OPG),that way we can get information about the correct location of infection.I think ,In your case infection has reached in the canal area (nerve infection) or Deep infection. Treatment for this problem is single sitting root canal treatment through wave one system along with LASER therapy under antibiotic, analgesic ,trypsin ,chymotrypsin and b- complex coverage. Then after 15 days of root canal treatment Crown (METAL OR METAL FREE CERAMIC) should be placed, because after root canal treatment tooth becomes brittle ,it may have chance for fracture. Choose one good ENDODONTIST (root canal treatment Specialist).

Sometimes, if tooth is decayed much inside, then infection (decay) may reach upto the pulp chamber inside the teeth containing nerves and blood vessels, leading to severe pain especially while one sleeps during night. Also, because of inadequate restorations or restorations done in teeth which otherwise required ROOT CANAL TREATMENT, may lead to such symptoms. Treatment is to ask for a X-Ray from the treating dentist of the offending tooth and get his suggestions/ alternative treatment. (Most likely will be removal of restoration followed by root canal treatment)

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Pain on the temple and chin is of dental origin (radiating pain), as you had mentioned you had a filling done there can be a chance of secondary caries formation due to re-infection of the tooth.
Other reason can be if the filling is deep it can irritate the pulp tissue causing pulpitis.

At night due to lying down position there is ncrease in the pressure inside the tooth leading to throbbing type of pain.

I would suggest you to visit the Dentist get a checkup done take a x-ray of the tooth,
such type of tooth can be root canal treated to save it permanently.

Take tab Augmentin 625 mg twice and tab aceclofenac twice for three days till you see the Dentist.
Maintain a good oral hygiene, use chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..

Hello and welcome to hcm,

The pain may be due to the infected pulp which comes in contact with the restorative material causing irritation.
I would suggest you get the infected pulp removed completely.
Also an x-ray of the involved tooth will help to diagnose any periapical infection if present.
Pus if present, has to be drained.
Take complete course of antibiotics.
Maintain good oral hygiene.
Avoid stressful work.
Hope this helps.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

you have terrible pain due to deep infection ,involving your pulp tissue(where there are nerves located).

I would suggest you to visit your dentist soon and get the previous filling removed, take a x ray and plan for RCT.

In root canal treatment all the infected tissues are removed and the root canal is refilled aseptically with bio compatible material.

hence giving you complete relief from your tooth problem.

hope it helps.

take care.

thanks.

hello and welcome to HCM,

Dental pain often radiates to the surrounding structures like head ear , neck and temple area.

Tooth ache indicates bacterial decay or infection in the tooth that involves the exposed tooth nerve tissues .

such infected tooth needs to be treated by a root canal procedure so please consider getting the treatment done by consulting a dentist.

you may need an OPG radiographic examination done for your teeth to confirm the spread of infectionor to rule out the exact cause of the pain and swelling in the temple area.

i would suggest you to start with antibiotic Augmentin 625mg along with analgesics like aceclofenac two times daily for 3 to 5 days .

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Dentist, Prosthodontics Dr. Shivangi Gajwani Jain's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for posting on HealthcareMagic.

After reading your symptoms i feel that the secondary caries/infection under your filling has reached the nerves of the tooth leading to severe pain. Such tooth pain usually spreads upto the scalp, temple, ear and jaw of that particular side.

The pain increases during night due to the change in posture ie: when you lie down there is an increase in pressure in the tooth increasing the pain simultaneously. All your symptoms lead to the diagnosis of nerve involvement of the tooth.

I would strongly suggest you to visit your dentist as that tooth requires a root canal treatment.
He may also start an antibiotic and a strong pain killer to give relief to the tooth, along with commencing with the root canal.
