G6PD, Mitral Valve Regurgitation. Had Open Heart Surgery To Repair Valve. Can I Take Blood Thinner Clotting?
Hi Dr.
I am a g6pd patient with a mitral valve regurgitation (moderate to severe), I believe there is a contradictory here from what I read about g6pd and mitral valve regurgitation. at a stage I have to go for the open heart surgery to replace or repair my valve and them I will have to take blood thinner clotting while this is dangrous for me since I am a g6pd patient.... I keep thinking about this.. the cardioligist told me no it is ok you need just extra care while doing your open heart surgery, but the hemologist was really shocked and he couldn't answer my question and just told me to wait until then.. until you need the surgery...
Hi and welcome! Yes the best thing to do in your case is to take a second opinion because it's difficult to determine if a moderate to severe mitral regurgitation should go for surgery without any other complaint (pulmonaty edema, heart failure ect.). For me in your case the best thing to do without any major complication such as pulmonary edema is to wait for surgery. Best regards dr. Benard Shehu.
