Gaining Weight. Taking Verapamil Er, Duration Of Course Of Medicine? Cause Of Weight Gain?

I've been taking verapamil ER 120 mg . I gained 10 lbs. Most of the time I look like I'm 3 or 4 months pregnant. What causes this weight gain. I eat once or twice a day, very little if any sweets. Is there any thing I can do to lose this weight. Also once you start this pill, do you have to stay on it for the rest of your life, if your not having problems.

Hello,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic,.

Yes, Verapamil can cause unexplained weight gain and overweight.

If you have rapid weight gain, you must switch over to other drugs.

Depends upon the cause , you can switch over to other group of drugs or another calcium channel blockers.
Consult with your Physician and either decrease the dose or switchover to other drugs.
Regular exercise, decrease salt intake, avoid oily and fat rich foods.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
