Gastric Bypass Scheduled, Smoking Cigarettes. Will Smoking Effect Outcome Of Surgery?

Hi, I am due to have gastric bypass on Sept. 20th. I m a smoker and my doctor told me I had to stop smoking . I ve only smoked 2 cigarettes in the past weeks and 1 today. I m not planning to smoke anymore until my operation as I feel guilty everytime I do so, but my question is, will those 3 cigarettes effect the outcome of my surgery?

Hello,
You are already a known case of smoker. The effect of smoking to the body will count depending on the total pack years you smoked. Those 3 cigarettes does not count to effect the surgery but the total pack years count (but don't try to smoke again now). Smoking is bad for health mainly for heart and also GI system.
Good luck.
