Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hmmm i am a bit fat and my age is 18 with s height 5'3 and my dad is 5'7 i want to grow minimum upto him .few days back i joined gym somebody said that if u get slim you will grow height and i read in a article that taking l-glutamine in night can increase my height . Plz query this and give a suggestion to grow height plz
Hello, Height of a person depends upon your genetic make up,exercises and nutrition. There is no evidence which suggests that glutamine increases height, although its consumption can result in maintaining better health and physical strength. Do regular exercises, take good nutrition and sleep well. Aerobic exercises result in more secretion of growth hormone which can help a person in increasing his height. However,a person can not add height after his long bones get fused up. Thanks
Height of an individual is determined by Genetics, Environmental & Nutritional factors and Hormonal factors (most important the Growth Hormone secreted by pituitary gland in brain) An individual stops growing in height after the fusion of the Epiphyses (growth plates) of the long bones, which occurs by the age of 18-21 yrs in males.
So...as you belong to the above mentioned age group, you may still have a chance of achieving your dream height. Make sure that you are taking a healthy & balanced diet, exercise regularly & avoid stress. Protein rich diet like soya, groundnut, pulses, etc should be incorporated in your diet plan.
One more thing...avoid consuming any over the counter medication which claim to boost your growth hormone & increase height...it may be harmful.
Wishing you Good Health. Thanks and take care
