Going For A Patellar Tendon Repair, Habit Of Smoking Marijuana. Will This Affect Her Surgery Or Her Having Anaesthesia?
My daughter is going in for a patellar tendon repair tomorrow morning and two days ago I found out that she smoked marijuana once about two weeks ago. Will this effect her surgery or her having anesthesia? I m worried..When they called last week and asked me all the pre-op questions, i said she didnt do this stuff...then i find this out! She is 14 years old.. Thank you Kristina
Pateller tendon repair is usually done under general anesthesia. Individual is made unconscious and relaxed by anesthetist. Marijuana is cannabis drug, it causes abolition of pain and CNS stimulation in general. You didn't mention its use in pre anesthetic checkup, but it is a drug that may cause difficulty in getting proper sedation and relaxation. It may interfere with proper anesthesia. So I advise you to disclose her marijuana status other wise it may hamper in her surgery.
Thanks
