Had Hip Replacement, Sciatic Nerve, Discomfort In Buttocks. What Can Be Done?
Hi. Had total left hip replacement 18 months a go. All been fine till now - lately there has been pain in my buttock & other discomfort. The right hip requires replacement but have been keeping muscles strong & all has been well. However recently also have been having pain & immovability issues with it. Sciatica nerve sometimes gets 'caught up'. Is the left hip in sympathy with deteriorating right hip? LOL.
Pain in same hip in which joint replacement has been done may indicate infection or loosening . I will advise you to do x ray ,and blood test like ESR,CRP .
Pain due to sciatica can be confirmed by MRI.
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started. Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. Core stabilizing spine exercises will help.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
