Had Implant, Hardly Had Any Periods, Having With Light Bleeding, Sharp Pain In Implant Area, Bleeding Heavily Now. Damaged Implant?
Hi I had the implant around 16months ago and hardly had any periods. When I did have periods they very very light. Last week I woke up to a very sharp pain where the implant was, almost as though it was caught. Ever since then, I ve had a very heavy period. (For the past 10 days). Could I have damaged the implant? Amy help would be kindly received!
Hi, Thanks for the query. Implanon can cause menstrual irregularities as side effects. Amenorrhea, irregular spotting, menorrhagia etc are some of them. So the menorrhagia you are having could be a side effect of implanon. Breakage of implanon after 16 months of insertion is a rare possibility. Anyhow as you are having heavy bleeding since 10 days, better to consult gynecologist once and get examined. If implanon is in place and if its working period is remaining, you can take anti - fibrinolytic drugs to control the bleeding and can continue with implanon. If the bleeding is not getting controlled with anti fibrinolytic drugs you can go for additional dose of hormones for few days. If the implanon is found to be broken, better to remove that and go for new one or choose some other contraceptive method. Take care.
