Had Itchy Fingers, Swollen Bottom Lip And Swollen Left Eye. Took Advil. Cured By Morning.

I woke up at 430 in the morning with severely itchy fingers (this has never happened before). Then I touched my lip and I thought "oh, great, I'm getting a cold sore". I looked in the mirror and my bottom lip had swelled to three times its sizes. In addition, my left eye on the side began to swell and was hard to touch. I took three Advil (since I didn't have any Benadryl) and continued to itch until I fell asleep. When I awoke the itching was gone, the lip was it's normal size, the swelling around my eye was gone but I had a little puffiness underneath the eye.

From the information that you have given It seems that you are having ' Urticaria with Angioedema'.This is caused by allergy to certain allergent usually food products like shellfish,groundnut,strawberry.....etc.You did a good thing by taking Advil, as antihistaminics is the main stay of treatment for angioedema. Sometimes a dose of steroid is needed.

It is important to know what exactly caused this,so that you can avoid further complications like anaphylaxis on your subsequent exposure to same allergent. So i would suggest that you always keep Advil handy and consult your dermatologist and allergist for further followup.
