Had Pain In Arm Down To Wrist While Drawing Blood. Still Paining. Healing Time?

Hi My husband had blood drawn a couple of weeks ago and during the draw he felt a lot of pain in his arm down to his wrist. The intensity of the pain is now less but the pain is still very much there. I would like to know if it will go with time and if so, how long will it take. My husband is out of office as the GP has asked him to rest his arm. Please advise.

Hello ,

thanks for writing to us
There might be some infection at injection site so he might have ask you to take rest.
usually these symptoms subside in 1 week . you can resume work if no sign of infection.

Pain Medicine & Palliative Care Specialist Dr. Kerry Pottinger's  Response
Hi,
I appears that he may have had a nerve damaged as the blood was drawn. The nerves and blood vessels are close together in the arm.
This is most likely to recover over the next few days and he will regain full use of his arm. Until then it is important he keeps moving his arm otherwise it will become stiff and take longer to recover.
Best regards,

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Generally, pain of the needle prick ( while drawing blood ) will not be there after 1-2 days. I suspect that your husband might have developed "Superficial thrombophlebitis" (inflammatory reaction in the vein) which might be causing pain all along the upper limb. This generally subsides with few antibiotics and analgesic antiinflammatory medications.
I suggest you to consult a general physician and follow his advice accordingly.
Hope this helps
