hi manjubakshi
after reading your query i diagnosed that may be your root canal is not properly done, might be any canal is missed out or residual inflamatory pulp is remained...but we can conclude this by an periapical xray and some clinical test.
i will suggest you to visit your dentist again and take out an xray of affected tooth.
thanks.

hello and welcome to HCM,

After a successful root canal treatment the tooth nerve tissue is removed completely and the tooth is disinfected and devitalised so there is no question of pain post treatment.

You may experience pain and sensitivity if any of the root canal is missed accidently and left unexplored . this may lead to infection which may spread to periapical area of the tooth.

i would suggest you to get an X ray done which will show if the root canal was done properly or there is any remnant pulp tissue present in the tooth , periapical infection or any abscess or any microleakage .

X ray is done by putting a small sreen inside the mouth dont worry about it .

After the treatment done , get the tooth capped with a prosthetic crown coverage which prevents the filling to come out and prevents microlekage.

i hope this helps ,

take care.

hello
thanks for posting query
you need to get a dental x-ray of that region immediately. if there is any periapical pathology then u might have to get re rct. sometimes there are accessory canals that cant be sealed so in that case u have to get the rct treatment done again. there might be some other tooth involvement too. that will be clearified by xray/ examination.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

After a sucessful Root canal Treatment the canals are completely removed devatilised and disinfected so there are no chances of pain .

Pain can be due incompletely done procedure , re-infection of the canal, any unexplored canal left out accidentally , food lodgement between the cap and the tooth if the tooth are capped .

Take an x-ray of the tooth this will give the complete periapical condition of the tooth or any left over pulp tissue .

Get complete mouth scaling and polishing done .
Take complete course of antibiotic and analgesic.

Maintain a good oral hygiene .
Use chlorhexidine mouthwash gargles twice daily.

Hope this helps out.

hi .. The following points are the most probable reasons for pain after RCT..

1. Incomplete rct : means any left or undiscovered canal in the tooth.
2. Overobturation : means over filling of the root beyond apex and its hitting the bone.
3. since you have posted you are having pain on the side of face so may be you got an rct on wrong tooth or there is new tooth which needs rct.

however anti-biotics and painkillers wont help for long . this pain will re-occur so consult your dentist asap.

Hello and welcome to hcm,

Usually root canal treated tooth will not cause pain if successfully procedure is completed.

There may be periapical infection remaining or infection has spread into adjacent area.
Perforation or ledge formation while performing root canal procedure also can cause swelling and pain.
AN X-RAY will help to rule out the cause.
Based on this,it has to be treated.
Meanwhile, analgesics and antibiotics has to be taken in complete course.
Hope this helps.
